REOPENING TASK FORCE AND ADVISORY COMMITTEES

In preparation for reopening, we have created a Reopening Task Force and four Advisory Sub-committees with specific focuses. The four sub-committees are:

  • Communications
  • Operations
  • Budget & Finance
  • Instructional

The task force and sub-committees are working hard on preliminary plans. After completing their work, the sub-committees will bring their plans back to the task force who will then use that information to create the comprehensive district-wide reopening plans to submit to NYSED by July 31.

We thank all the staff and community members who have volunteered their time and skills for our sub-committees.

SCHOOL GROUNDS

On July 16, the district re-opened its playgrounds to the public to use at their own discretion. Throughout the playground, you will find reminders about following CDC guidelines, including practicing safe social distancing. Playground equipment will be cleaned two times per day following CDC cleaning procedures.

Basketball courts will open on Monday, July 20. Per state guidance, courts are to be used for practice only and not for games. Please follow CDC guidelines and practice safe social distancing while using the facilities as we want to keep everyone safe and healthy.

ATHLETICS

The Officers of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA), voted to delay the official start date of the Fall 2020 sports season, cancel the Fall 2020 Regional and State Championships and prepare to implement a condensed season schedule in January 2021 if high school sports remain prohibited throughout 2020 due to COVID-19.

Read a full statement from NYSPHSAA here.

NYSPHSAA has released its COVID-19 guidance, which can be found here.

In early-September, NYSPHSAA decided to postpone Football, Volleyball and Cheerleading until March 1. Spring sports will begin on April 19.

STATE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT GUIDANCE

On July 16, the State Education Department provided guidance regarding the reopening of school buildings in the fall. This voluminous document is 145 pages and will help guide districts in developing final plans for reopening, which must be submitted to the state by July 31. During the first week of August, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo will decide in what capacity schools may reopen in the fall.

PARENT SURVEY

We engaged the community regarding the reopening of school in the fall via a survey, which can be found here. We encourage all families with children enrolled in the district to fill out this survey. This is your chance to have your voice heard and we value your feedback during this time. This information will be used as we move forward and prepare for September.
