Schodack CSD’s Continuing Education program encourages lifelong active, reflective, and creative learners in our community. The program is self-supporting with no impact on district taxes.

Fall 2019 Schedule

Driver Education

Five Hour Pre-Licensing with the Mackay Driving School
Starts: November 5 and 7
Time: 6:00 to 8:30 p.m.
Location: HS Room 136
Fee: $50

This course is required by New York State Department of Motor Vehicles for any individual seeking to take a New York State Road Test. The course covers the state required curriculum. Students must possess a NYS Learner’s Permit in order to take this course. Registered individuals will receive a MV-278 certificate at the end to sign up for your road test (valid for one year).

Health & Fitness

Co-Ed Volleyball
Coordinator: Anthony Moak
Starts: Sept. 22 (ongoing on Sundays)
Time: 6:45 to 8:45 p.m.
Location: HS Gym
Fee: Walk In $5
Join other intermediate players for an evening of fun and competitive volleyball play. This 10-week program offers no instruction, coaching or officiating; warm-ups and games will be self-monitored. Players should play at an intermediate to advanced-intermediate level to participate and must wear kneepads. Class size for this group is extremely limited.

Debi’s Aerobic Dance & Energy Activating Class
Instructor: Debi Filkins
Starts: Sept. 24 (Tuesdays & Thursdays)
Time: 7:00 to 8:15 p.m.
Location: District Office Building (former Maple Hill Middle School) Gym
Enjoy dance and energy activating techniques for your heart, health and happiness. On Tuesdays, this class overlaps with Debi’s Stretch class. Register directly with instructor Debi Filkins at 518-708-9238.

Hall Walkers
Starts: Sept. 23 (ongoing, every school night through the school year)
Time: 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Location: District Office Building (former Maple Hill Middle School) Hallways
Fee: free, must pre-register& obtain ID badge
Walk in a safe, warm place – the Maple Hill Middle School! You can walk when you wish and at a pace that is comfortable for you. Walkers will be issued a special visitor’s badge to wear while in the building.

Insanity Workout for Beginners
Instructor: Kathleen Johnson
Starts: Oct. 2 (Wednesdays, 10 weeks)
Time: 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Location: CES Auditorium
Fee: $75 or walk-in for $10 per class
INSANITY® is a total body workout, based on high intensity interval training. This class includes an introduction to cardio, body weight resistance and core training. An effective workout with athletic/plyometric drills, mixed with intervals of strength and core work. All levels welcome. Modifications are provided, including no and low impact versions. Kathleen Johnson is a district resident and mother of two active boys. As a runner and fitness fanatic, she enjoys working out with people in the community. A yoga mat is recommended for exercises done on the floor.

Over 30 Basketball

Starts: Sept. 23 (ongoing, each Monday and Wednesday that the district is open)

Enjoy a full-court basketball league for fun and exercise. Enrollment is very limited for this group and early registration is encouraged.

YMCA Body Sculpting – NEW
Instructor: Kim Doran, certified YMCA instructor
Starts: Sept. 23 (Mondays for six weeks)
Time: 5:30 to 6:15 p.m.
Location: District Office Building (former Maple Hill Middle School) Fitness Center
Fee: $45
Designed for both men and women of all fitness levels. Free weights, bands, tubes, balls and other resistance training equipment will be used to tone and strengthen the major muscle groups of the body with the end result being a firm, well defined body.

YMCA Core de Force – NEW
Instructor: Yalitza Negron-Rivera, certified YMCA instructor
Dates: Sept. 23 (Mondays for eight weeks)
Time: 6:00 p.m.
Location: CES Small Gym
Fee: $60
This is an empowering 50 minute workout that combines mix martial arts shadow boxing with high interval strength training to help you lose weight, tone your core, and leave feeling epic. Come join us as we discover our inner fighter and work to the bell!

YMCA Spin Bike – Monday Nights
Instructor: Kim Doran, certified YMCA instructor
Starts: Sept. 23  (Mondays for 10 weeks)
Time: 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Location: District Office Building (former Maple Hill Middle School) Spin Bike Room
Fee: $75
Spinning is an indoor group exercise cycling class. You will Spin to motivating music as the instructor takes you on the ride of your life. It will challenge and strengthen your cardiovascular system to the fullest extent. Be prepared to work up a sweat in this class!!

Dates: Sept. 25 (Wednesdays for 10 weeks)

YMCA Yoga: Beginner
Instructor: Becky Raymond, YMCA Certified Instructor
Dates: Sept. 24 (Tuesdays for 10 weeks)
Time: 7:00 to 8:15 p.m.
Location: CES Small Gym
Fee: $75
Yoga for Beginner Level is for individuals who are looking for an introduction to yoga or people with experience who prefer a slower, gentler class. Participants should wear comfortable clothes, bring a yoga mat and a medium-weight blanket.

YMCA Yoga: Intermediate
Instructor: Michele Baynes, YMCA Certified Instructor
Dates: Oct. 3 (Thursdays for 10 weeks)
Time: 6:30 to 7:45 p.m.
Location: CES Small Gym
Fee: $75
An intermediate level class designed to improve flexibility, balance, strength, and overall wellness through a series of yoga poses, breathing and relaxation techniques.

Register In Person

  • Bring a completed registration form and check to the Continuing Education Office located in the District Office building (former Maple Hill Middle School), Room 303 at 1477 South Schodack Road weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
  • For certain exercise classes, registrations will also be accepted in person at the first night, but please call the Continuing Education Coordinator in advance.

Refunds

Registration in a class represents a commitment and instructors are hired based on the number of people registered. Therefore, refunds will only be issued if the class is canceled due to insufficient enrollment, if the class is filled to maximum capacity, or injury.

Each class must meet a minimum enrollment. If a course is canceled due to insufficient enrollment, or over-enrolled, you will be notified by phone and/or mail and receive a full refund. The refund will be mailed to you in check form and may take several weeks to process.

Weather/Emergencies

Classes may be canceled due to weather or other emergencies. If the District closes the school, Continuing Education classes are also canceled. Every effort will be made by the class instructors and the Director of Continuing Education to contact all registered participants.
