In an effort to recognize outstanding achievements of our students, Maple Hill Jr./Sr. High School presents each quarter a Student of the Quarter Award. Students may be nominated for this award by any staff member, a representative of a community organization, a parent or another student. Students may be nominated for a single outstanding achievement, for service to the school or community or for significant improvement in school. Each Quarter one student in each grade, 7-12, is selected for this award by a faculty committee after a review of all nominations. For the third quarter of 2020/2021 the students selected to receive this recognition are:

  • 7th – Nina Bedell, Matthew Heyman, Madelyn Reilly
  • 8th – Katarina Knapp, Kendra Pulver
  • Freshman – Celise Champigny, Luciano Marra,
  • Sophomore – Samuel Anderson, Martin Finney, Dillon Halvax
  • Junior – Joseph Brewer, Brianna Romer, Bridget Soden
  • Senior – Kevin Bauer, Tyler VanDeWal

Nina, daughter of Mr. Luke Bedell and Ms. Deborah Scheidel, was nominated for always being on task and works very hard in all of her classes. Here at Maple Hill, Nina is a member of chorus. Outside of school she participates in a dance group and hopes to join her youth church group when things become a little safer. After graduation Nina plans to go to college and she would love to be a dance teacher.

Matthew, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Heyman, was nominated for being a great remote student. He has volunteered every single class, never has his camera off, and brings a great attitude. Here at Maple Hill, Matt plays the clarinet in band. Outside of school he participates in taekwondo and soccer. Matt is still exploring his options of what he would like to do after graduation.

Madelyn, daughter of Ms. Renee Strothers, was nominated as she has exceeded expectations since joining us here at Maple Hill. Madelyn is still exploring the different clubs and activities that are offered here, but she is currently a member of chorus. After graduation she would like to go away to college and explore being a doctor and video game designer.

Katarina, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Knapp, was nominated for taking control of her education and learning while under the hybrid schedule and making the most of the time she is in school. Here at Maple Hill, Katarina plays the clarinet in band. Outside of school she is a member of a dog Frisbee league where her and her dog are part of a team and compete against other teams. After graduation Katarina has plans to go to college but she is still undecided about what she wants to study. She is exploring options like art therapy, photography, or counseling.

Kendra, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Pulver, was nominated for participating frequently in class, is kind and pleasant to those around her. Here at Maple Hill she is a member of JV soccer, track and field, and basketball along with band and chorus. After graduation, Kendra plans to go to college but she is still undecided about what she wants to study.

Celise, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marc Champigny, was nominated for being an extremely conscientious student who always works to the best of her ability. Here at Maple Hill, she plays the clarinet in band and plans on joining Key Club next year. Outside of school, Celise is a member of girl scouts. After graduation she plans to go to college and has an interest in studying law but is still exploring her options.

Luciano, son of Mr. Benjamin Marra, was nominated for his work ethic and strong leadership skills. Here at Maple Hill, he is a member of track and jazz band along with being the 9th grade class president. After graduation, Luc plans to go to college for either math or computer science.

Samuel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Anderson, was nominated for consistently being engaged in class lessons, his camera is on, is insightful and does excellent work while learning remotely. Here at Maple Hill, he plays the trombone in band and previously has participated in jazz band. Sam is still undecided about what path he wants to take after high school. Right now, he is interested in technical careers.

Martin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Finney, was nominated for doing a wonderful job in his classes all year, is a determined, motivated student who sees the value in education and sets goals for himself. Here at Maple Hill, he doesn’t participate in any clubs this year, but does enjoy camping with family and friends in his free time. After graduation, Martin plans to go to college and hopes to go into the educational field.

Dillon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Halvax, was nominated for being a conscientious and diligent student who has kept up with the workload and has excelled. Here at Maple Hill, he is a member of the varsity soccer and varsity track and field team along with being a member of chorus. Outside of school he plays on the Dutchmen travel soccer team. After graduation, Dillon plans to go to college but he is still undecided on what he will study.

Joseph, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Brewer, was nominated for being a voracious learner. When he learns something new, he always seeks to know more, to acquire a deeper understanding or more knowledge about the topic at hand. Here at Maple Hill, he is a member of swing choir, varsity golf and the track and field team. Joe plans to go to college for neurobiology or paleontology.

Brianna, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Romer, was nominated for being a model remote student in that she reports to every class, asks questions when she is confused, and advocates for herself when it comes to grades and assignments. Here at Maple Hill, Bri was a member of the prom committee this year. Bri plans to go to Hudson Valley to become an ultrasound technician.

Bridget, daughter of Mr. Brian Soden and Ms. Marilyn Oliver, was nominated for being a very talented student in that she is intelligent, articulate, and conscientious. Here at Maple Hill, she is Vice president of GSA, editor and chief of the junior paw print, and a member of the Varsity volleyball and softball teams. After graduation, Bridget plans to attend Columbia Greene College to pursue a career in cyber security.

Kevin, son of Mr. Kevin Bauer and Ms. Karen Bauer, was nominated for being an open, honest and smart student. Here at Maple Hill, he is a member of the varsity lacrosse team along with being a member of boy scouts outside of school. Kevin is attending students of the quarter collageSUNY Albany and will be majoring in accounting.

Tyler, son of Mr. Jason VanDeWal and Ms. Jennifer McLean, was nominated for being an exemplary student, who always has a positive attitude and strong work ethic. Tyler is a positive role model for his peers. Here at Maple Hill, he is a member of newspaper club and Key club. Tyler is attending SUNY Delhi to study Mechatronics Engineering.
