Schodack CSD Community,

I am pleased to announce that effective today (March 4), Town of Schodack Police Officer Rich Eckel has been assigned as the School Resource Officer (SRO) for Schodack Central School District. If you are unfamiliar with the role of an SRO, they help their assigned districts with a variety of important tasks, but overall they collaborate with them to ensure and improve the safety of everyone in the schools.

Officer Eckel’s appointment as our district’s SRO was made possible thanks to the support and cooperation of the Town of Schodack, the Schodack Police Department, our board of education and our school community. We thank all of them for their ongoing commitment to making our schools safer places to learn and work.

As a longtime Schodack Police Officer, district resident, and district parent, Officer Eckel is already a familiar face to many in our community. Even before he was appointed SRO, Officer Eckel offered his assistance to our district countless times over the years, and he will now be a full-time presence in our schools.

Late last week, he spoke at length with a committee made up of district administrators, board members, faculty/staff, Schodack PD, and Town of Schodack members about his interest in the role. It was clear that Officer Eckel’s insight, perspective, and years of experience with our school community made him the best choice to be the SRO in our district.

You will likely see Officer Eckel around our buildings at some point this week if you have not already, and I encourage you to congratulate and welcome him to his new role when you do.

Sincerely,

Jason M. Chevrier
Superintendent
Schodack Central School District
