Did you know that this fall the Castleton Elementary School building celebrated its centennial when it turned 100 years old?! The district celebrated the 100th birthday of the building at the Castleton Elementary School 100 Years Celebration on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at a special edition of the school’s Monthly Assembly.

All of Castleton Elementary’s kindergarten-6th grade students were in attendance, along with all of the school’s faculty and staff. Many school families joined the celebration to watch the assembly with performances by the students, including grades 4-6 singing the school’s alma mater.

A notable highlight of the event was the “What Does 100 Look Like?” activity which was led by Mrs. Golden’s class, all of whom were dressed to look 100 years old. During this activity, 10 groups of 10 students gradually came to the front of the gym until there were 100 students up front helping visualize the sheer size of a century!

Some of the special guests at the 100 Years Celebration included several local elected officials: Deputy Mayor of Castleton-On-Hudson Jenifer Pratico, New York State Senator Jacob Ashby (a Schodack Class of 1998 graduate who gave a special shout-out to Maple Hill Assistant Baseball Coach Jim Canonica, also in attendance), Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin and Town of Schodack Supervisor Charles Peter. Many thanks to all of them for taking time from their busy schedules to celebrate 100 years of Castleton Elementary School!
