Castleton Elementary School students are learning how to be more focused and relaxed during the school day this year.

Physical Therapist Jamie Colloton and Counselor Tara O’Grady-Day have been visiting classrooms and gym classes to share deep breathing exercises, yoga postures and other strategies to encourage mindfulness.

“It helps keep students in the present and more happy in the present,” explained Ms. O’Grady-Day. “Students can take a short break and refocus when they have high energy like after lunch and then continue on with their learning.”

“We’re trying to have a more mindful school community and this is a way to help students,” added Ms. Colloton.
