Students with therapy dog

Castleton Elementary School continued its Wellness Week today, a week of fun activities to promote and encourage physical and emotional well-being with students, with physical education activities and a visit from a therapy dog.

Second and third graders, for example, practiced yoga and deep breathing to encourage students to be calm, peaceful and focused. “The more mindful you are the better your mind and body will work together. It will also help you let go of things,” Physical Therapist Jamie Colloton told students.

Students then enjoyed a visit from Innovative Learning Lab Teacher Sarah Lant’s therapy dog, Comet. Ms. Lant shared the training involved for Comet and answered students’ questions from what does he weigh to what type of dog he is.
