Schodack Central School District’s Food Backpack and Holiday Giving Programs are starting up again for the year. See the message below from our district’s social workers, Ms. Stilson and Ms. Sober, for more information.
Dear Schodack Families,
It is so great to see our students back this year. We would also like to welcome several new families to the district. We are happy to have you as a part of our Schodack family and community and look forward to getting to know all of you.
The Schodack Central School District is very fortunate to have such a generous community that truly cares about our school and its students. Due to the generosity we receive every year, our school can support families in need, so we wanted to make you aware of two programs we offer. Please know that these programs are confidential.
- Food Backpack Program: Our district is a site for the Regional Food Bank Backpack Child Nutrition Program. This allows enrolled students and their families with food insecurity to take a backpack full of food home on the weekends and over school breaks. Backpacks will begin going home the week of October 5 and continue through late spring.
- Holiday Giving Program: The holidays can put a financial strain on families, and this program allows school families to supplement their gift-giving to their children. Enrolled families make student wish lists (typically 2–3 items), and faculty/staff/community members donate the items. You will also have an opportunity to request a free Thanksgiving turkey. This program will begin in mid-November.
If you are interested in having your child(ren) participate in one or both of these programs, please contact either of us, the School Social Workers. We look forward to working with you.
