In February, I let you know that Castleton Elementary School Principal James Derby would be leaving for a new professional opportunity at the end of the year. Since then, we have conducted a thorough search for his replacement, including working with district parents and employees to conduct stakeholder interviews with candidates. Thank you to everyone who collaborated with the district on this important process over the last two months.
After being officially appointed at last night’s board meeting, I am happy to announce that Megan Sullivan will be the next Castleton Elementary School Principal, effective July 1, 2026. Ms. Sullivan has been the Castleton Elementary Assistant Principal since July 2024. Her proven track record of strong relationships, an understanding of the school community, and a readiness to step into this new leadership role made it clear she was the best candidate for the job. Mr. Derby will leave big shoes to fill, but I am confident we have made the right choice in Ms. Sullivan to follow in his footsteps.
