Schodack CSD Community,
In recent weeks, there has been an increasingly large number of our students and employees getting sick. While sickness normally spreads easier in colder months, this winter we have seen an unusually large uptick in contagious illnesses like stomach bugs and respiratory infections spreading around every district building. While not always the case, much of this is the result of coming to school while contagious.
No one is intentionally trying to make anyone else sick, and I know how difficult it can be to determine if you or your student are sick enough to stay home from school. On behalf of all the students, employees and families in our district, I ask you to please use the following guidelines when determining if you or your student should be in school:
- Stay home if you are feverish. You should be fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication to be in school.
- Stay home for any new and prominent respiratory symptoms (severe coughing, very sore throats, noticeably runny noses). These symptoms must be greatly improved and minimal to be in school.
- Stay home if you are vomiting or have any other stomach bug symptoms. You should be symptom-free of these for 24 hours to be in school.
Thank you for your collaboration in making sure everyone in our buildings has a safe and healthy second half of the school year. If you have concerns or are unsure if you or your student should come to school, please contact our Schodack Health Services Team.
