If you have not had a chance to meet her in the last month, join us in welcoming Maple Hill’s new Assistant Principal, Angela Tommasini, who joined the district last month after being appointed in November. With Ms. Tommasini still being fairly new to the Schodack CSD community, we checked in with her for a Q&A so you could learn a bit more about her.

Maple Hill Assistant Principal Angela Tommasini

Angela Tommasini

Tell us a bit about your background before you came to Schodack.

I graduated from Le Moyne College with a Bachelor’s in Psychology and then earned my Master’s in Social Work at UAlbany. After working in the clinical field for a few years, I joined Cohoes High School, where I worked with grades 9-12 for the past six years. I’ve loved every aspect of being in education, especially supporting students and families while building strong connections within the community. Over time, I took on more leadership roles aimed at improving the school as a whole. My background in social work has helped me connect with students and staff on a deeper level, offering a unique perspective on how to support the entire school community. Those experiences ultimately inspired me to pursue my certification in building administration, where I can take on more responsibility and embrace new challenges.

What drew you to Schodack and the MH Assistant Principal position?

I appreciate smaller school districts because I value the opportunities they provide to build stronger relationships with students, parents, and community members. Maple Hill is a perfect fit for me, as it’s all about that connection with students and families. Having attended small schools myself, I’ve always appreciated the sense of community that comes with being in this type of close-knit environment. For me, it’s all about being part of something impactful.

Starting mid-school year is unique, how did you prepare for that? What are some of your goals for the rest of the year?

Starting fresh anywhere has challenges, but doing so mid-year definitely comes with its own set of unique ones. I’ve focused on getting to know the faculty, students, and their families during this last month. I’ve already learned so much and a main goal for the rest of the year is continuing to learn everything I can about the school community to best support everyone and help keep the school moving in a positive direction.

What do you want your new MH colleagues, school families and students to know about you right off the bat?

I really value open communication with students, families, and staff. As some have seen by now, I try to be visible around the school as much as I can so I’m available if needed. My door is always open, so feel free to swing by just to say hello or chat about how I can help out. Maple Hill families are more than welcome to reach out with any questions or concerns. I love hearing how everyone is doing and finding ways we can work together to make our school community even stronger!

Finally, what’s life like outside of work?

Outside of work, I stay active by playing indoor soccer and tennis. I also bought a house a few years ago, so I’m always working on small projects around it. But above all, I love spending time with family and friends whenever I can.
