Earlier this month we announced Megan Sullivan had been appointed Castleton Elementary School’s new Assistant Principal and we checked in with her for a short Q&A so the school community could learn a bit more about her before school starts in September!
Tell us a bit about your background.
My teaching career began in 2008 when I graduated with my Master’s of Education in Literacy from Providence College in Rhode Island. I was fortunate to teach grades 6-8 ELA and Social Studies for several years in Rhode Island and Indiana, before moving to the Capital Region in 2014 for my husband’s career. Upon settling here, I taught in Troy for 3 years before accepting a teaching position in Hudson in 2017, where I taught in grades 4 and 5.
Though I adored my time in the classroom, I felt ready to take the next step in my educational career and pursued my administrative certification through Stony Brook University. I am so excited to embrace this new chapter in my career and journey as a life-long learner!
What drew you to Schodack and the CES Assistant Principal position?
When my husband and I moved to the area, we had heard incredible things about the Schodack Central School District. We purchased a home that borders Schodack and East Greenbush. When I started my administrative studies, I told my family that my dream job would be working in Schodack. Though I’m not from the area, Schodack reminds me a great deal of my hometown, and I am thrilled to contribute to this community! As a mom of two young children, I especially love working with elementary school children, so I felt this would be a perfect fit!
Summer is a unique time to start a job in a school, what’s a goal before everyone returns in September?
Over the rest of the summer, I hope to meet many more of the amazing people who make up the CES family. I’m working on getting to know names, roles, and families, and also learning more about some of the amazing programs I can contribute to.
What’s something about you that you’d like the CES school community to know right off the bat?
I am very passionate about education and ensuring that all students feel cared for, challenged, and respected. I strive to be a trusted and reliable listener and advocate for our community members, and I enjoy getting involved with new ideas and programs.
Finally, what’s life like outside of work?
I live in East Greenbush (technically Schodack) with my husband (Matt), son (Thomas, 8), and daughter (Annie, 4). We also have a two-year-old red fox lab named Delilah who is still learning not to steal socks and shoes. We started camping this summer, and we are loving it! I love a good book or puzzle and love playing board games with my family.
