Dear Schodack Community,

You may have heard that earlier today Governor Hochul announced she is ending the indoor mask mandate for New York State businesses tomorrow (February 10). However, she also stated that masks remain required in certain settings for now, including schools.

Governor Hochul also indicated that test kits will be sent to students prior to the upcoming winter recess. The intention would be for families to use them before students return to school on Monday, February 28.

In early March, she said the state will make an assessment of mask protocols in schools based on the latest metrics. This includes cases per 100K, percent positivity, hospital admissions, pediatric hospitalizations, vaccinations, and global trends. If the mask mandate for schools were to end, she said that the state is currently drafting proposed guidelines for that scenario based on feedback from state education groups.

Sincerely,

Jason M. Chevrier
Superintendent
Schodack Central School District
