Aiden Fletcher and Mia Fleck have been honored with 2021 NYS AHPERD Capital Zone Leadership Awards for their commitment and contributions to Physical Education throughout their high school careers.
In total, 37 students from 18 area schools were recognized. Students were nominated by their physical education teacher for their high level of physical performance, scholastic achievement, exceptional leadership qualities and outstanding service to school or community.
Mia has participated in soccer (Captain and Patroon All-Star), Basketball and Softball (Captain) while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. She has been recognized as a NYS Capital District Society of Women Engineers Certificate of Merit recipient, Capital District YMCA Outstanding Student, as well as a Scholar Athlete Award winner. Mia actively partakes in Key Club, Girl Scouts and Science Olympiad, and is a representative on the Mental Wellness Committee and serves as the Secretary for the National Honor Society. Upon graduating, Mia will continue her education as she has been accepted into the Connell School of Nursing at Boston College.
Aiden competes on the boys soccer team (Captain, Team MVP, Patroon All-Star) and the indoor and outdoor track and field teams (Sectional Champion). He maintains a 4.0 GPA, earning the George Eastman Young Leaders Award (Univ. of Rochester), AP Scholar Award and Student SAGE Award. Aiden is a member of the Concert and Jazz bands, Key Club and National Honor Society. Aiden will continue his education at the University of Maryland, majoring in Government and Politics.
Both Aiden and Mia were presented a plaque. Students also received access to a special message from NYS AHPERD Executive Director Colleen Corsi, President Dr. Clancy Seymour and Zone President Dustin Verga.
