Today (Tuesday, Jan. 19) the District was notified that one student at Castleton Elementary School has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. The District has worked closely with the Rensselaer County Department of Health to determine close contacts who will need to quarantine. Those individuals have been notified.

While we understand that you might like additional details, due to privacy laws we cannot release any identifiable information about the individuals or affected students.

Please continue to monitor yourself or your child/children for any symptoms of COVID-19, report any absences and positive test results to our nurses immediately, and do not attend school in-person. Symptoms vary, and some people may not experience any symptoms. Contact your healthcare provider (or a local urgent care or the county health department) to be assessed if you or your child have one or more of these new or worsening symptoms:

  • a temperature greater or equal to 100.0° F
  • feel feverish or have chills
  • cough
  • loss of taste or smell
  • fatigue
  • sore throat
  • shortness of breath
  • nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
  • muscle pain or body aches
  • headaches or nasal congestion/running nose

Please remember to use Pikmykid for daily health screenings in the morning and in the afternoon for pick-ups. As always, the health and safety of students and staff is the District’s top priority and we appreciate your cooperation and diligence during this time.
