College Representatives VIRTUAL VISITS with Maple Hill 2020-2021
How do you know a college is right for you? The first step is to ask plenty of questions. The answers will tell you if the college you are looking into meets your needs. High school seniors and juniors should take advantage of the college reps through virtual visits for Maple Hill Jr./Sr. High School in the fall. Some things you may inquire about are their academics, student life, financial aid, admissions procedures and sports. In many cases, the rep is the admission officer for the college. The schedule of visits can be found on the Guidance Office web page. As dates approach, an email with the college link will be sent out to students.
CASDA recognizes the importance of connecting students with colleges and post-high school careers for recruitment. During the changes due to COVID-19, CASDA is offering a new service for virtual college and career fairs during the Fall 2020 season. These virtual fairs will allow representatives to connect directly with students during a one-hour fair. For a list of participating colleges along with dates and times, please visit https://www.casdany.org/fall-college-fairs.
There are three virtual college fairs scheduled which are supported by NACAC and CommonApp with 600+ colleges at each session. Applying for Working Papers
When are working papers required?
Minors under 18, including high school graduates, must obtain working papers before they may begin work. The law makes exceptions for golf and bridge caddies and baby sitters, for minors doing casual household chores, and for minors older than 16 engaged in farm work. It also exempts college students 16 years of age or over who are employed by a nonprofit college or university or fraternity, sorority, student association, or faculty.
Who issues working papers?
Applications for working papers are available in the Guidance Office or on the Guidance Office Schodack web page. The Application For Employment Certificate must be signed by a parent or guardian. The Physical Fitness Certification must be signed by the family physician or the school nurse if the student has a physical on file. The physical must have been done within a year of applying for working papers. For additional information on the employment of minors, please visit www.labor.state.ny.us or call 1-800-HIRE-992.
