District Shares Student-Focused Approach to Capital Project

Superintendent Jason Chevrier speaks to associationMaple Hill High School welcomed the Association for Learning Environments on Jan. 25, offering architects, engineers, construction companies, and school officials an opportunity to learn about Schodack CSD's Capital Project.

Schodack CSD offered to host the association, whose mission is to improve places where children learn, to share how the district renovated a school by engaging the community and planning around the needs of students.

Superintendent Jason Chevrier explained the late Superintendent Bob Horan set the focus for the Capital Project from the beginning Maple Hill High School cooridorby asking students where they felt most comfortable learning. If students said in front of their lockers, for example, Mr. Horan asked them if they would like small areas to gather in hallways.

"Bob's vision was more than just creating classrooms but hallways and spaces for students. Students loved their school. Students really love their school now," said Mr. Chevrier. "I've only picked up the pieces and seeing this project through to the end. Bob deserves the credit."

The more than 40 guests who toured the school were impressed by the school's college-like atmosphere with bright classrooms, small gathering areas, and functional furniture.
