MAAC Program Helps Students Learn Different Types of Writing
As part of an ELA lesson that helped students learn different types of writing, 7th and 8th graders became pen pals with the Rider University men and women basketball teams.
Middle schoolers connected with the student athletes through the MAAC Gives Back program. Students researched the college and then learned how to write a business letter so they could introduce themselves. After the student athletes wrote back, Middle School students learned how to write personal letters and wrote again.
When Middle School students attended a basketball game at the Times Union Center, thanks to tickets provided by the MAAC Gives Back program, students ran into Rider's women's basketball team who stopped to talk with them and take photos.
"Their basketball coach said the business letters we wrote were some of the best letters they received," said teacher Christine Fowler.
