Female students attending Maple Hill High School next year who are interested in exploring science and engineering are encouraged to register for the Engineering Institute for Young Women Summer program hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. This free, week-long program running from July 22-27 will provide opportunities for students to learn about engineering disciplines through presentations by female scientists and hands-on projects. The 2013 Regents Review 2.0 programs will begin airing on NYS Public Television stations on May 6. The one-hour review shows in this Regents test preparation series are also streamed online at www.regentsreviewlive.net, where you'll find information on exam dates and tips, links to all the NYS Public Television stations and much more. Regent exams covered are: English, Integrated Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2/Trigonometry, Earth Science, Living Environment, Chemistry, Physics, Global History & Geography, and US History & Govt. Students Learn from Holocaust SurvivorMaple Hill High School students learned first-hand about the Holocaust this year when survivor Martin Becker spoke to students during an assembly. Students Win HVCC Competition Again For the second year in a row, MHHS students won the Hudson Valley Community College Viking Challenge in Trivial Pursuit. Students Lauren Brathwaite, Alex Flood and Will Noll competed on April 10 against 11 other school districts from across the Capital Region in the event that tests general knowledge. Prizes for their 1st place finish include $500 scholarships to HVCC and a Lenovo Think Pad that will be donated to the school. Congratulations! Posted 4/18/13.
MHHS Principal Ron Agostinoni has written a letter for parents reviewing the course selection process for next school year. Students Spend Part of Recess VolunteeringThe boys varsity lacrosse team spent part of their spring recess volunteering at Castleton Volunteer Ambulance. Students spent hours helping with spring cleaning and other projects on April 5. “The school district can be proud of these nice young gentlemen,” said Samara Dorward, Chief, Castleton Volunteer Ambulance Service. “They accomplished everything that we set out for them. Grant Pays for Laboratory Grade Equipment for MHHSMaple Hill High School received $14,200 in new laboratory grade equipment for science classes this year at no cost to the district thanks to a Toshiba America Foundation grant. Science teacher Leonard Bacon wrote the winning proposal for the grant which required initiatives that increase student engagement and improve student learning. Read more by clicking here... Schodack CSD honored the community’s veterans on Nov. 9 by filling the MHHS auditorium with High School and Middle School students for a panel discussion where veterans talked about their experiences. The Take a Vet to School Day event featured journalism students reading bios they wrote about the vets and students asking questions about their service. Faculty and staff also donated money to purchase a lunch for the guests. “I just want to thank everyone for the thoughtfulness you shared today,” said Rep. Chris Gibson. “I will always remember this. As part of the district's ongoing efforts to fight bullying, School Psychologist Rebecca Blais and School Social Worker Jennifer Sober would like to share a tip sheet with parents that helps identify the signs of bullying and what to do if parents believe their student is the victim of bullying.
