In an effort to help ease anxieties that parents or their children may feel about the upcoming state ELA and Math testing for grades 3-8, Superintendent Bob Horan has prepared a letter for parents explaining how the results are used to improve education. “The most important thing we want parents to know is that we view these tests more as a measure of our own performance,” Mr. Horan wrote. “We take every opportunity to try to put our students at ease, asking them to simply do their best so that we can do our best to help improve their education.” Click here to read the letter... Judging by students’ wide eyes and determined faces, MHMS STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Day was a huge hit on Jan. 25. Students in grades 4-8 spent the day designing methods to filter water, engineering catapults out of mouse traps, building structures out of spaghetti and marshmallows and other hands on activities. “There is a big push nationally and internationally to focus on STEM in education,” said Principal Michael Bennett. “We want to give students a leg up and excite them about it as they start to think about their career and post-secondary educations.” CES Principal Jason Chevrier said his students couldn’t wait for the day to arrive. “This also is great for their transition,” said Mr. Chevrier. “They’ll have a great experience to remember and they’ll know some of the faces when they come here in a year or two.” Click here for a photo slideshow… Posted 1/25/13.
