August 1, 2019

Greetings Parents and Students:

I hope that you are enjoying your summer vacation and that you are looking forward to the start of the upcoming school year. We had a successful year at Maple Hill Jr./Sr. High School and are looking forward to continuing that success this upcoming year. We have spent the summer preparing for next school year and are looking forward to your return to the classrooms on Thursday, September 5th.

Anyone interested in taking an August Regents exam should contact the main office. All of our students will be given Chromebooks for use throughout the school year. Please note, if students did not return their charger and/or their computer at the end of the 18-19 school year, they may not receive a replacement in September. Stay tuned about when your devices can be picked up!

Enclosed, you will find your tentative schedule for this school year. Please check it carefully. Every effort was made to schedule all classes you requested and there are some electives that currently still have openings. If you have room in your schedules, please look at the enclosed offerings and when they are available. If there is an elective that you would like to take, contact the counseling center and they will do their best to accommodate you without making major changes to your core courses. Final schedules will be distributed to all students on the opening day of school.

Your transcript has been posted to both the student and parent portal. Your transcript is a snapshot of your FOUR years of high school. It is important to remember that your cumulative GPA in conjunction with the courses that you take has a great impact on college acceptance. Colleges not only look at GPA, but also want to see if you have challenged yourself to the best of your ability during high school. I strongly encourage you to enroll in elective courses if your schedule permits.

In addition to academics, we stress the importance of becoming involved with school activities and/or athletics. Being a student at Maple Hill is more than grades; we want to see students that are engaged in school functions outside of the classroom. It is very important that our students keep accurate account of school activities and involvement in the community as they will be able to add this to their resumes and list of accomplishments as they apply to college, jobs, and competitive organizations.

All students should have their lock for their lockers and your locker number will remain the same as last year. Only school issued locks will be allowed, all others will be removed. New students will receive their lock on the first day of school at class meetings. We have revised the bell schedule slightly to allow you to have 30 minute lunch periods. The start of the day is still 7:35, but the final bell will now be at 2:00 pm. We will update the period schedule on the website for your reference.

Students who drive to school on a regular basis are required to register their cars including students that had their cars registered last year. Parking registration forms can be found on the high school main web page. If you will be driving to school, please complete the form and return it to the office with a copy of your license, registration and insurance. Students will be expected to park in the designated student parking lot. Driving to school is a privilege, and students are expected to be in school and class on time to maintain that privilege. Parking permit applications can be submitted to the main office starting on Monday, August 26th.

Maple Hill Jr./Sr. High School will continue communication with parents and students through monthly eNews emails and our website as well as the e-school parent/student portal. You can also “Like” the Schodack Central School District on Facebook or follow our Twitter page @MapleHill_HS. Information regarding e-school portal can be found at

There are three separate Chemical Health programs at the beginning of each sports season. If you plan to participate in sports during the 2019-20 school year, you and a parent are expected to attend this workshop prior to your sports season. The Fall Chemical Health Night is Monday, August 19th at 6:00 pm in the auditorium. The fall sports “Meet the Coaches” meeting will be prior to the Chemical Health Night.

Enjoy the remaining days of your summer vacation! We are looking forward to a new and exciting 2019-20 school year. I am looking forward to seeing you all in a few weeks.
